Imagine that someone was trapping
eagles and clipping their wings so that they would never fly again. Imagine
eagles with clipped wings pecking the ground for feed along with chickens.
Imagine eagles no longer building impressive nests in which to hatch their
young, and never again knowing the joy of soaring on thermals.
This is a picture of saints
who think they are sinners, of the sons and daughters of God who are
preoccupied day after day, week after week, with whether or not they are justified
and accepted in Christ Jesus. This is a picture of the Law and not of Grace, of
condemnation and the not Gospel; of slavery and not the liberty we have in
Christ.
“It was for freedom that
Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to
a yoke of slavery,” Galatians 5:1.
Imagine an eagle who raised
its young to think they were chickens. Just exactly what are we doing?
